Siding
ForgeWood
A showcase of craftsmanship and artistry, ForgeWood is thermally modified wood siding perfected. We start with poplar, a naturally dense species with a wide, versatile grain and small, charming knots, then put it through an all-natural preservation process. Carefully calibrated machinery tempers the wood with heat and pressure to remove moisture and natural sugars. The result is dimensionally stable, lightweight, and durable boards that are refined further to clad any home or building.
This curated collection of natural and two-tone finishes was put together to celebrate both the keen eye and skill of craftspeople in construction today. The authenticity of real wood, with its nature to age and patina in conversation with its environment, is combined with resistance to rot and fungal decay. Backed by a 20-year limited warranty, ForgeWood thermally modified poplar siding is the ideal choice for projects that prioritize quality. Available in end-matched tongue-and-groove nickel gap with matching trim.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is thermally modified wood?
Thermally modified wood is natural wood that has been heated to high temperatures in a controlled, oxygen-free environment to enhance its durability, stability, and resistance to moisture, insects, and decay. This process changes the wood’s cellular structure, reducing its moisture content while also deepening its color for a rich, natural aesthetic. Thermally modified wood siding offers long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance. If you want to learn more, read this blog by our experts.
What type of fasteners are required for exterior application?
Stainless steel screw fasteners are required for exterior installation of thermally modified wood siding.
What type of fasteners are required for interior application?
Fifteen or 16-gauge trim nails are recommended for interior installation of thermally modified wood siding.
Should I pre-drill holes for fasteners?
Yes. Predrilling holes for fasteners is recommended. Areas especially prone to cracking, such as the ends of the boards, should always be predrilled. The thermal modification process makes the wood slightly more brittle, and therefore, it can be more prone to splitting.
Are there any harmful chemicals used in the thermal modification process?
No. The thermal modification process does not involve harmful chemicals. It’s conducted in a controlled environment, and any residual substances are completely cured before your thermally modified poplar siding reaches the installation phase.
Is thermally modified poplar wood siding resistant to rot, termites, and other insects?
Yes. Thermally modified poplar resists rot, termites, and other wood-boring insects better than untreated options. By eliminating moisture and organic materials such as hemicellulose, which are main food sources for fungi, the process helps prevent decay. It also breaks down sugars and starches that typically attract insects, including termites.
Does thermally modified poplar wood expand and contract?
While some natural movement may still happen, thermally modified poplar expands and contracts much less than untreated wood.
How long will the prefinished color last?
ForgeWood siding is prefinished in a controlled setting with a proprietary two-coat exterior coating. Over time, the finish will require some maintenance and refinishing. Depending on the application and the amount of UV exposure it receives, this upkeep may be needed within a few years. However, if the cladding is not regularly exposed to direct UV light, the finish may last several years with minimal upkeep required. Please refer to our Installation & Maintenance Guide for the latest information regarding requirements.
Is ForgeWood siding protected by a warranty?
Yes, ForgeWood thermally modified poplar siding is backed by a 20-year limited warranty for rot and fungal decay. For full details on coverage, requirements, and limitations, please refer to the ForgeWood Warranty document.
