Thermally Modified Wood Siding – Ponderosa Pine
Experience the enhanced performance of the Thermally Modified Wood Collection. Crafted through an all-natural preservation process, our innovative cladding undergoes thermal modification that transforms its very structure—intensifying its color, refining its durability, and fortifying it against the elements. The result? A stunning, dimensionally stable siding that resists rot, minimizes cupping and warping, and remains resilient during seasonal shifts.
Designed for longevity and aesthetic excellence, our thermally modified wood cladding offers a sophisticated yet organic appeal. Every board showcases the richness of natural wood grain, with a depth of tone that only heat can achieve. Available in a variety of on-trend hues, both natural and prestained, these boards seamlessly integrate into modern and traditional designs alike. Whether installed as exterior siding or used to create striking wall and ceiling applications, the unique variations in each board provide a one-of-a-kind look. Available in end matched nickel gap tongue-and-groove or v-groove (WP4) profiles.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is thermally modified wood?
Thermally modified wood is natural wood that has been heated to high temperatures in a controlled, oxygen-free environment to enhance its durability, stability, and resistance to moisture, insects, and decay. This process changes the wood’s cellular structure, reducing its moisture content while also deepening its color for a rich, natural aesthetic. Thermally modified wood siding offers long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance. If you want to learn more, read this blog by our experts.
Are there any harmful chemicals used in the thermal modification process?
No. Thermal modification is done in a controlled environment and any chemicals are cured out by the time products are handled for installation.
Is thermally modified wood siding resistant to rot, termites, and other insects?
Yes. Thermally modified wood siding is more resistant to rot, termites and other insects than non-thermally modified wood options. The thermal modification process removes moisture and organic compounds (like hemicellulose) that fungi need to grow, making the wood far less susceptible to decay. Many insects, including termites, are attracted to the sugars and starches in wood. Thermal modification breaks down these compounds, making the wood less appealing to pests.
Does thermally modified wood expand and contract?
Slight movement can still occur, but the thermal modification process significantly minimizes expansion and contraction when compared to untreated wood.
What type of fasteners are required for exterior application?
Stainless steel screw fasteners are required for exterior installation of thermally modified wood siding.
What type of fasteners are required for interior application?
Fifteen or 16-gauge trim nails are recommended for interior installation of thermally modified wood siding.
Should I pre-drill holes for fasteners?
Yes. Predrilling holes for fasteners is recommended. Areas especially prone to cracking, such as the ends of the boards, should always be predrilled. The thermal modification process makes the wood slightly more brittle, and therefore, it can be more prone to splitting.
How long will the prefinished color last?
Thermally Modified Wood Collection cladding is prefinished in a controlled setting with a proprietary two-coat exterior coating. Over time, the finish will require some maintenance and refinishing. Depending on the application and the amount of UV exposure it receives, this upkeep may be needed within a few years. However, if the cladding is not regularly exposed to direct UV light, the finish may last several years with minimal upkeep required. Please refer to our Installation & Maintenance Guide for the latest information regarding installation and maintenance requirements.
Is Thermally Modified Wood siding protected by a warranty?
Yes, Thermally Modified Wood siding is backed by a 20-year limited warranty for rot and fungal decay. For full details on coverage, requirements, and limitations, please refer to the Thermally Modified Wood Warranty document.
